The Urgent Care Department at Colac Area Health provides a 24 hour emergency service to the Colac Otway Shire and its visitors. Treating approximately 10,000 patients a year, the department is staffed by a dedicated team of nursing professionals. Medical care is provided in collaboration with our local General Practitioners and access to x-ray and pathology is available as required.
An extensive range of surgical specialities including General, Obstetric, Endoscopic, Orthopaedic, Urological, Gynaecological, Ophthalmic and Dental are provided by a combination of our Colac based General Surgeons and Visiting Specialists in our two room operating suite.
To ensure a seamless transition from admission through to discharge, all surgical patients are interviewed by the preadmission nurse either in person or by telephone prior to their admission.
Colac Area Health’s specialised staff care for the day procedure patients in our designated Day Surgery Unit.
Inpatient services (Acute ward)
Our Acute Ward offers a broad range of patient care for medical, surgical, midwifery and palliative admissions. Medical care is provided by our local General Practitioners and Visiting Medical Specialists. Visiting hours for non-midwifery patients are 11.00 am-12.30 pm and 2.00 pm–8.00 pm. The Maternity Unit consists of two birthing suites and two single postnatal rooms. The unit is staffed 24 hours per day by a supportive and highly dedicated team of Midwives and Visiting Medical Officers (GP Obstetricians and Anaesthetists) who are committed to providing family centred, individualised maternity care. Visiting hours are from 2.00 pm-8.00 pm. Partners/Support People and other children are welcome to visit anytime.
