Tuesday, 26 September 2017
Otway Health has received an Equipment Grant to the value of $16,484.00 from the Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation for the purchase of a new HoverJack and HoverMatt System.

Chair of the Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation, Ian Manton, was very pleased to confirm the Grant and will present a Certificate to Otway Health recognising payment of the Grant at the Foundation’s upcoming Annual General Meeting on Saturday 11 November at Captains on the Bay, Apollo Bay.

“The Foundation is proud to support Otway Health with the acquisition of this very important equipment.”

HoverTech International is a world leader in air-assisted safe patient handling. Their patient transfer HoverJack and HoverMatt systems assist with patient transfer, repositioning and safe patient handling needs.  Marlin Medical are the official distributors for the HoverTech International range to Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

The system will be utilised and stored at Otway Health and made available on request to Ambulance Victoria. An on-site demonstration to our staff was conducted on 27 July 2017 by Marlin Medical, with Tony Mandic, Team Manager – Apollo Bay Branch, Emergency Operations for Ambulance Victoria, also in attendance giving his support and recommendation into the purchasing of this equipment to benefit both Ambulance Victoria and Otway Health.

The Hoverjack system allows patients to be lifted in a laying position without manual handling, reducing the risk of any injuries being made more severe. It also assists to further implement our no lift policy for clinicians. With the HoverMatt Air Transfer System, the mattress and the patient float on a cushion of air so caregivers can safely transfer patients without lifting or straining. Utilisation of a HoverMatt can achieve varied lateral an prone patient positions. In addition, the pump has a role in pressure care and thus pain management of patients, highlighting that the HoverMatt is not just a transfer device.

The HoverJack Air Patient Lift allows caregivers to safely lift patients who have fallen without gathering a lift team. The HoverJack consists of four chambers that are inflated sequentially to lift patients from the floor to bed or stretcher height in a supine position, maximizing patient comfort and minimizing the risk of injury to both patient and caregivers. Once the HoverJack lift is inflated, the HoverMatt air transfer mattress can be used with the same air supply unit for safe and easy lateral patient transfer to a bed or stretcher. There are many demonstration videos available on the Internet. The below is a video of emergency services in the USA, which demonstrates the diverse applications where HoverJack  & HoverMatt can provide assistance.
