Chief Executive Officer

Christine Giles
R.N, R.M, Grad Dip HM

Chris commenced has CEO of Portland District Health in November 2012. Chris is a senior executive with considerable experience leading and managing rural and remote health services in Western Australia and the eastern states. Chris has a strong clinical background as a nurse/midwife, which have proven valuable throughout her career, and has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Health Management with the University of New England.

She is passionate about the bush and achieving good health outcomes for the people and communities who share her love of the rural and remote lifestyle. She believes health services belong to the community and no matter how far from a major metropolitan centre, the people within that community is entitled to a health service which is responsive to and best meets their needs.

Aside from working in rural and remote health Chris is also passionate about clinical informatics and in her previous executive roles has implemented clinical systems that facilitate seamless sharing of patient information across a range of settings. At Portland District Health this has included the implementation of a full medication management system.

Director of Nursing

Ros Alexander
RN, DipMgt, MRCNA

Ros commenced her current role in June 2014. She has over 20 years’ experience in senior management as a Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Nursing in both the public and private health system across Australia. Ros worked in Spinal Nursing at Austin Health in the early part of her nursing career and later returned to Portland to set up and manage Quamby, Drug and Alcohol services. Ros represents PDH on a number of regional committees, including Palliative Care and Chemotherapy. Ros has a keen interest in Governance and Quality.

Director Primary & Aged Services

Fiona Heenan
B. Nursing, Grad. Cert. Diab Ed.; B. Ed; Grad. Dip. Business (Management)

Fiona, a Registered Nurse with 26 years’ experience, commenced in her current role in September 2013. Prior to this appointment, Fiona was the Director Primary Care Services at Heywood Rural Health which included management of the Commonwealth Rural Health Services Program across the small rural health services of the Glenelg Shire. Fiona was also a Project Officer for Integrated Chronic Disease Management for the Southern Grampians Glenelg Primary Care Partnership following returning after 20 years to Portland, having been employed as a Clinical Nurse Consultant- Diabetes Education in Melbourne and East Gippsland. Her last posting in Melbourne was managing the Diabetes Education Unit, Southern Health including Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong and Moorabbin Hospitals.

Karena Prevett
Bachelor Business/Accounting

Karena commenced her role with Portland District Health in August 2017.  With a Bachelor of Business/Accounting qualification, Karena has strong financial experience from both the public and private sectors.    Prior to this appointment, Karena was employed in the local government sector for 13 years, most recently in the role of Director of Corporate Services.  Karena has a keen interest in governance and is passionate about the delivery of quality outcomes for our community.

Director Finance

Jennie Stinson

Jennie commenced her current role in January 2016 and is new to the health sector. Jennie has over 15 years’ experience in senior finance roles in the corporate sector including 2 years with Portland Aluminium. Jennie is a West Australian but has resided in Victoria (Melbourne and Portland) for 12 years. Jennie enjoys the outdoors and loves living in the Portland area.

Director of Health Informatics

Claire Holt
BHIM, CHIA

Claire has been with Portland District Health since November 2011 and in her current position since Oct 2016. Qualified as a Health Information Manager, Claire oversees the Health Information and Health Informatics functions at PDH. With a ten plus year history in the public health sector, she has worked at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre and the Victorian Cytology Service. An inaugural Certified Health Informatician of Australia (CHIA) and passionate about health informatics, change management and the supporting business processes, Claire plays an active role in the development of the electronic health record and digital health strategies in the South-west region of Victoria.
