Staff Development Unit/Education

The Staff Development Unit is an organisational wide resource unit.

Team members working in the Staff Development Unit include

Portland District Health staff undertake competency, education and training using a variety of methods. The organisation hosts an on line learning system which houses a variety of learning packages for all staff including key links to external learning opportunities and web sites.

Mandatory and core competencies for all staff across the organisation are hosted on SOLLE and supported by key practice sessions aligned to specific competencies.

Portland District Health is highly supportive of staff undertaking training In 2014, 9 catering staff completed a nationally recognised qualification in Cookery / Catering.

In growing a workforce of the future, Portland District Health partner with local secondary colleges offering school based traineeships, a model where students attend the workplace one day a week and undertake study in a nationally recognised course provided by a local Registered Training Organisation of TAFE. In 2014 PDH supported students undertaking Carpentry, Cookery, Electrical, & Aged Care traineeships.

A monthly education calendar is distributed organisation wide, and includes various topics facilitated by internal and invited guests.
