Portland Lions Club’s `White Lioners’ Murray to Moyne team will be helping people with urology problems when they hit the road this year.

The riders on April 1-2 will raise money for the purchase of a flexible cystoscope for Portland District Health's urology surgical service.

The upcoming PDH annual charity golf day on March 24 with Merv Hughes will raise money for the same cause.

For the second year the team will include an all-female group, including Glenelg Shire Mayor and PDH board member Anita Rank.

Last year the Murray to Moyne team raised more than $5000 towards the purchase of a new video laryngoscope and fluid warmer and local coordinator George James hopes to match or better that figure in 2017.

This is the 15th years the Lions Club has organised the Murray to Moyne team. The club is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year of serving the Portland community.

Mr James said he expected a strong contingent of about 20 local riders to take part in the relay.

This event continues to be the club's major contribution to our local hospital, he said.

It's all part of the Lions Club's charter and commitment to improving community, which has been happening now for 50 years.

Mr James said riders enjoyed the relay event but realised it was all for a good cause to support local health services. We hope the community will again support our local hospital and help with our fundraising, he said.

All funds raised by the Lions Club will go directly to PDH and all donations are tax deductable. About 1500 riders will take part in the 530km relay to raise funds for hospitals and health services throughout Victoria.

People wanting to support the Portland team can make donations at the Bendigo Bank in Portland or sign up online as a donor for the Portland White Lioners at www.murraytomoyne.com.au/.

The club will be selling firewood and collecting used batteries as part of the fund-raising activities and can be contacted on Facebook or via its website http://portland.vic.lions.org.au
