Portland’s contribution to the One Million Stars to End Violence campaign will be recognised at the Commonwealth Games.

Portland District Health spearheaded the campaign which resulted in Portland being recognised as a star weave community after making more than the required 10,000 stars. The local community combined for a total of 13,285 stars being sent from Portland District Health.

One Million Stars is a community project about individuals, groups and communities joining in the conversation of ending violence across the world and to weave one million stars. The stars made locally will be part of an installation at the Commonwealth Games.

The One Million Stars campaign builds on PDH’s involvement in the White Ribbon program which seeks to end violence against women.

One Million Stars seeks to end all forms of violence against all members of the community, including violence against women, bullying and racism.

PDH has erected a small star display at the main entrance area to inform the community about the Brisbane display and remind everyone about the local contribution to the project.

The One Million Stars installation is to be presented by the Museum of Brisbane in King George Square, Brisbane from March 29 to April 15 as part of Festival 2018 during the during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
